How to Improve English Writing: A 20-Minute Daily Practice Plan
Better English writing comes from repeated practice and useful feedback, not memorising difficult words. A short daily routine can improve clarity for school, work and everyday communication.
Minutes 1–5: Read
Choose a well-written paragraph. Notice how it introduces the idea, connects sentences and uses punctuation. Record two useful expressions with meanings and original examples.
Minutes 6–12: Write
Choose one topic and make one clear point. Start with a topic sentence, add supporting details and finish with a conclusion. Aim for clarity rather than complicated vocabulary.
Minutes 13–17: Edit
Check organisation first, then grammar, verb tense, subject-verb agreement, spelling and punctuation. Reading aloud can reveal awkward phrasing.
Minutes 18–20: Track errors
Record one recurring mistake and write the corrected rule with a new example. Review this log twice a week and ask a teacher for feedback on a specific issue.
Four-week progression
- Week 1: sentences and punctuation.
- Week 2: paragraph structure.
- Week 3: summaries and formal emails.
- Week 4: revise a longer piece using feedback.
